Explore the most authentic Tetouan, where white architecture and Andalusian heritage coexist with traditional art and the vibrant life of the souks. A city where every street tells a story, and every detail reveals the fusion between Morocco and Spain.
A walk through the living history of Tetouan
Our experience begins in Hassan II Square, in front of the imposing gate of the Royal Palace, where the influence of Spanish colonial architecture is still visible. From there, we head to Moulay El Mehdi Square, the heart of the new city, surrounded by buildings that narrate the Hispanic past of the city.
We enter the fortified medina, declared a World Heritage Site, through its seven decorated gates to Bab El Akla, the eastern entrance to this world of labyrinthine alleys. Here we discover small white houses covered with vegetation, hidden corners and souks where life pulsates with intensity.
In the middle of the walk, we will pause at a traditional tea house to enjoy a refreshing glass of mint tea, as Moroccan hospitality dictates.
The visit continues at the Bab Akla School of Crafts, where we will see the craftsmen in action and learn the secrets of ancient trades such as leatherwork, pottery and embroidery. A sample of the living art that still flourishes in this city of contrasts.
